Pleasant Hill is one of the younger cities within the Bay Area.  Its first post office was opened in 1948 and the city was incorporated in 1961.  Over the years, the city won numerous awards for its unique architecture with its main icon being the local “Dome” theater that was built in 1967.  This theater served as a local monument and highlight for the city.  In fact, Pleasant Hill had no true downtown until the 90s.  In the early 1990s, the city began planning the development of what became a beautiful, “Main Street” style outdoor mall.  It has many shops, dining establishments, and a movie theater.  Many families spend the weekends walking around the numerous establishments.

The area is a huge mecca for education.  First and foremost, the Mount Diablo Unified School District operates the elementary, middle, and high schools.  Students of all diversities attend each school and test scores are generally on the upper scales.  Besides the public schools, Pleasant Hill is home to Diablo Valley College and John F. Kennedy University.  These educational institutions make Pleasant Hill a true educational center for Contra Costa county.

Pleasant Hill has over 33,000 individuals with the average household income exceeding $100,000 a year.   The population is mostly Caucasian but Hispanics and Native Americans make up a substantial portion.

Many events occur in Pleasant Hill and most are centered around the local theater or library.  Residents also visit the neighboring cities of Concord and Walnut Creek as they both have a rich downtown.  Another significant event is the Blackhawk Food, Wine, and Film Festival that is organized by the Danville/Sycamore Rotary.  They serve as the host for their annual fundraiser.  Livermore wineries and Danville restaurants bring their scrumptious foods and wine to satisfy attendees cravings.  While people eat and drink, the festival usually has some great entertainment and a fun auction to make it a great event.
